PASTORS

Joey C.

  • Joey joined Sunset Church in July 2007 as the youth pastor and is now our Lead Pastor. He grew up in Michigan and came to know and follow Jesus in high school. He attended Cedarville University, and while taking Bible classes, felt a call to ministry. This call led him to attend Trinity Evangelical Divinity School to further his pastoral and theological training. He finished his Doctor of Ministry at Talbot School of Theology and hopes his research will further church multiplication in San Francisco. Joey feels a call to cities as they are a strategic place for Gospel ministry since it is where “all peoples of the earth” can be found. He is blessed to be married to Jeannette and they have two amazing daughters, Melia and Selah.

Simon C.

  • Simon joined Sunset church as their Cantonese pastor in 2017 and began to serve as the Cantonese Lead pastor in 2020. He grew up in Hong Kong and finished his undergraduate and MBA studies in Midwest, where he accepted Christ and met his wife Teresa. After working for more than twenty years as a financial expert in a leading global consulting firm, Simon sensed the call and began to equip himself for full-time ministry. He completed a Master's degree in Christian Education and obtained a Master of Theology (Th.M.) degree from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS). Simon was ordained by Dr. Chuck Swindoll (Senior Pastor) and elders at Stonebriar Community Church in Texas. Prior to joining Sunset Church, he has served in churches in LA, Dallas, and Hong Kong.

Simon’s passion for ministry is teaching and discipleship. It is a great joy for Simon to see one leaving the elementary teachings about Christ and goes on to maturity, particularly when the person is faced with challenges at work, in the family, or from contemporary cultures. Simon enjoys traveling with Teresa to different places where they can relax, sightsee interesting places, and try the local food.

Abraham L.

  • Pastor Abe Lee came to faith in Christ as Lord, Savior, and Friend at a young age, but chose to walk away from his faith during his college and graduate school years. Thankfully, the persistence of a loving friend and mentor brought him back to faith in Jesus Christ after grad school – bringing him to reconcile with his family, the church, and with God. During that time, he clung to the knowledge that if he confessed his sins, God would forgive and love him and bring him back to a reconciled relationship with Him (1 John 1:9).

He met his wife Suzette in his hometown of Chicago and was used by God to introduce her to Christ. They’ve been married for over 20 years and lived in San Francisco for 17 years where he served as the music ministry director, director of operations, and elder for Sunset Church before being called back to Chicago in 2018. While in Chicago, Pastor Abe served as a co-vocational pastor (working in both ministry and for a software development firm) at Church of the Beloved. He has since retired from the technology sector to become a full-time pastor at Sunset Church.

Antonio L.

  • Born in Panama, Pastor Antonio moved to Guangzhou, China when he was six. After seven years of living and learning Chinese culture, he returned to Panama and later came to the United States for high school and college. Antonio studied structural engineering at UC San Diego, where he also accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He has worked in an engineering firm in the Bay area for 10 years. During this time, Antonio felt a strong sense of God’s calling to be equipped in the seminary. In 2016, Antonio began his study at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Illinois) and completed a Masters of Divinity degree last year. He joined Sunset Church as the Cantonese Assistant Pastor in early 2022. Antonio is passionate about teaching God’s word and building up others to grow as Christ’s disciples. Antonio is married to Esther, and they have three beautiful young children. He enjoys cooking, traveling, and exploring outdoor activities.

Gabriel Y.

  • Gabriel began coming to Sunset Church as a 6th grader, affectionately (and incorrectly) calling it "Camptoons Church," having attended the summer camp for many years. Throughout middle school and high school, God used faithful Youth ministry workers to plant seeds in Gabriel, which began to bear visible fruit in the early years of college, when he finally saw clearly his own wretched state. It was then he decided to cling to Christ for salvation. Over the next decade, Gabriel would be serving in various volunteer youth ministries, as God had given him a heart for the youth; the path of vocational ministry would not become apparent, however, until the end of 2013, when the Lord placed a conviction upon his heart to enter pastoral ministry. For the next few years, Gabriel studied at Western Seminary (San Jose) for his M.Div. degree and finished the program early in 2018. His hope and goal for ministry are simply to preach the Gospel faithfully to the glory of God.
