OUR MISSION

The 5 M’s: Meet Jesus, Maturity, Ministry, Mission, and Multiply
Pastor Joey kicked off the year preaching through the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) and shared with us that in order to make disciples who are Real in Life, Love, and Family, we must have a mission to get us there. This mission is summed up in our 5 M’s.
Church Membership
While we understand that Christ has called us each into a personal, saving relationship with himself, he has also brought us into a new community to be his dwelling place (Eph 2:19-22). This year, we want to emphasize the importance of church membership as a way to identify who is committed to the local body of Christ at Sunset Church, as well as to better care for those who are on mission with us through our 5 M’s. We will be leading membership classes two more times during the year, so if you’re not yet a member, be on the lookout for this opportunity to commit to Sunset Church as you join us in our Mission for Christ!
Small Groups
We also realize that making disciples doesn’t happen in isolation, but rather in community. For this reason, we hope to make small groups available to every attendee of Sunset Church, and to place people in communities that help them Meet Jesus, grow in Maturity, get involved in Ministry, be on Mission for the Gospel, and further Multiply disciples for Christ. While many small groups are still in the formation stages, be on the lookout this coming summer/fall for this opportunity to get involved in the community and life of Sunset Church!
Preaching through Romans
At the core of every disciple of Christ is a robust understanding of the Gospel. This year, the pastors have chosen to preach through the book of Romans, and expound this letter of Paul’s, in order to give our church a deeper understanding of the Gospel and the grace of God. As we continue through this preaching series, we hope and pray that we will grow in love and unity for Christ together! If you would like to study along with us, we have made available a study guide, Romans: Encountering the Gospel’s Power by John Stott. Pick up your copy in the church lobby today! Just like any New Year’s resolution, we realize that failure is a great possibility. Many of us have gone year after year hoping to finally start that book, pick up that hobby, or lose weight – much to no avail. However, this resolution of ours at Sunset Church – to make disciples – is not one we carry on by our own power, but through the power of Christ in the Holy Spirit. Though we may stumble, Christ will remain faithful. We hope you’ll join us this year as we seek to be disciples who make disciples for Jesus Christ through membership, small groups, and the preaching of the Word, as we Meet Jesus, Mature in Christ, engage in Ministry and Mission for the Gospel, and further Multiply disciples who will do the same!
